The Natural Eater:
Bringing joy to healthy food and eating

Our relationship to food in the industrialized world has become increasingly problematic. Obesity and other eating disorders are today dramatically expanding, with future predictions of whole societies of obese, food-disordered people. Despite the many well-researched diets and other advice available to most people on a daily basis, these problems threaten to undermine the health economics and social well-being of whole populations.

The Natural Eater is the next step in healthful food and eating. With food and information more widely available than at any other time in history, people everywhere face the challenge of how to use these new resources well. The Natural Eater argues that the greatest challenge posed by this food revolution is our need to ensure that the values we associate with food serve our whole selves.

The Natural Eater is a values system for addressing the disconnect between knowledge and action when it comes to our relationship to food. At the core of this system is the objective of bringing joy to healthy food and eating.

The six values that form The Natural Eater system are:

  1. Nature:
Connecting to the origins of what we eat and doing so in ways that are feasible in modern life.

  2. Creativity:
Eating who you are and understanding food as a means of self-expression.

  3. Self-awareness:
Experiencing food as your peaceful zone.

  4. Togetherness:
    Building relationships through food.

  5. Solidarity:
Connecting to the world and its peoples through food.

The main operating principle of The Natural Eater is that food is not a separate ‘issue’. Rather, it is in the service of a good life which is a web of interrelated factors.
